Foster caregivers give animals a safe, temporary home while we handle the rest. Depending on the animal and your availability, fostering may involve:
- Providing a safe, comfortable place to stay
- Basic daily care, food, and attention
- Transportation to and from vet appointments (when needed)
- Sharing updates and photos to help find an adoptive home
- Short-term or longer-term placements — your choice
- Ongoing support and guidance from our team
How to Become a Foster
Getting started is simple.
Fill out our foster application through our ShelterLuv portal so we can learn about your home, experience, and availability. Our team will follow up to answer questions, match you with an animal in need, and walk you through the next steps.
Before You Apply
Having a few things ready helps us match you with the right animal:
- A safe space at home for a foster pet (crate, room, or fenced yard as needed)
- Ability to transport your foster to vet visits or events when needed
- Approval from any landlord or roommates, if applicable
- Patience and flexibility — every animal adjusts differently
