Instead, we believe the best adoptions begin with honest conversations.
We want to learn about your family, your lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a companion. Just as importantly, we want to share what we’ve learned about each dog in our care.
Our goal isn’t to approve or deny people.
Our goal is to make the right match.
Organizations across the country have shown that removing unnecessary barriers doesn’t increase adoption return rates. Why We Believe in Conversations Instead of Barriers
Fun fact: I was once denied the opportunity to foster Luna.
Not because I lacked experience.
Not because I didn’t love dogs.
Not because I couldn’t provide a wonderful home.
I was denied because I honestly answered an application question and shared that years earlier, I had made the difficult decision to rehome a dog.
Life isn’t always simple.
People face unexpected circumstances.
One moment in someone’s past doesn’t define the kind of pet parent they are today.
That experience stayed with me.
When we built Bartow Rescue & Resources, we made a commitment that our adoption process would be different.
We don’t believe people should be automatically approved—or automatically denied—because of a checkbox.
We believe the best decisions come from honest conversations, mutual trust, and finding the right match for both the family and the dog.

When one captures your heart, complete an adoption application to begin the conversation.
Step 2: Let's Talk
After receiving your application, we’ll schedule a thoughtful conversation.
We want to learn about your family, answer your questions, and help determine which dog will be the best fit for your lifestyle.
This isn’t an interview.
It’s a conversation.
Step 3: Meet Your Potential New Best Friend
The dog’s current foster family will arrange a meet-and-greet.
Our foster families know these dogs better than anyone and are an important part of helping create successful matches.
Step 4: Take a Sleepover
Whenever possible, we encourage an overnight stay—or even better, a Foster-to-Adopt period.
Living together for a few days allows both your family and the dog to settle in naturally and helps everyone feel confident that it’s the right match.
If you’re certain before the Foster-to-Adopt period ends, and all required veterinary care has been completed, we’re happy to finalize the adoption early.
Communication Matters.
Your adoption doesn’t end when you leave with your dog. Successful transitions take patience, communication, and following our guidance—especially when introducing a new dog to your home, family, or other pets.
Many returns happen because introductions are rushed or our recommendations aren’t followed. When you need us, we’re only a text or call away.
Sometimes the Best Way to Know Is to Live Together.
Our Foster-to-Adopt program gives both your family and the dog time to adjust before making a lifelong commitment.
During this time, you’ll experience everyday life together while we remain available to answer questions and provide support.
For Foster-to-Adopt placements lasting more than one week, Georgia regulations require a home visit as part of the process.
We see this as another opportunity to support a successful adoption—not as a barrier.
