Behind the Animal Control building, white smoke rises from the cremation building.<\/p><p data-start=\"396\" data-end=\"467\">And every time I see it, I think about the dogs who didn&#8217;t make it out.<\/p><p data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"578\"><strong data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"578\">Not because they were bad dogs.<br data-start=\"502\" data-end=\"505\" \/>Not because they were unwanted.<br data-start=\"536\" data-end=\"539\" \/>But because there wasn&#8217;t enough room.<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"632\">Bartow County does not have a public animal shelter.\u00a0Animal Control is a rescue-only facility. There are no public adoptions. There is no public access for families to walk through kennels looking for a dog.<\/p><p data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"861\">When Animal Control is full, the dogs on the streets don&#8217;t stop coming.\u00a0And the clock doesn&#8217;t stop either.<\/p><p data-start=\"899\" data-end=\"914\"><strong data-start=\"899\" data-end=\"914\">Three days.<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"993\">Three days for a stray to be reclaimed, rescued, or otherwise find a way out.\u00a0 And when there is nowhere for another dog to go?<\/p><p data-start=\"1045\" data-end=\"1097\"><strong data-start=\"1045\" data-end=\"1097\">What happens next is the part I couldn&#8217;t accept.<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1120\">I kept asking myself:<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"1izjw7y\" data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1150\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1150\">How did we get here?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1210\">And then I asked myself the question that changed my life:<\/p><h1 data-section-id=\"1h9yaw0\" data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1238\">If not me, then who?<\/h1><p data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1263\">If not now, then when?<\/p><p data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1338\">In January 2022, I saw a photograph of a terrified dog at Animal Control.<\/p><p data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1358\">Her name was Luna.<\/p><p data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1385\">And I couldn&#8217;t look away.<\/p><p><em>Inspired by Luna. We saved 3 and her mom.\u00a0<br \/>She spent the beginning of summer 2024 at events every weekend. But every weekend, people walked by. She watched her siblings got adopted; finally, her mom also got adopted. Crystal waited. It was crushing to watch her grow up in the rescue. She was beautiful, sweet, loved kids, other dogs, and she waited.\u00a0<br \/>Then one day in June a man shows up and said, &#8220;My sisters told me that you have a dog I might want to adopt.&#8221;\u00a0 His sisters had been walking this girl all summer. Crystal went home, because we kept showing up.\u00a0<\/h6>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38c19e9 Nickname<\/em><\/p><p>Long before Bartow Rescue &amp; Resources took shape, one couple opened their home to a dog named Bogey. He was on the euthanasia list \u2014 severely emaciated, heartworm-positive, and terrified. It took the two of them\u2014and it took one woman choosing to foster him first\u2014to give him the chance no one else would.<\/p><p>Bogey&#8217;s transformation became the heart behind our nickname, Bogey&#8217;s Buddies, and that name has stayed with us ever since.<\/p><p>Luna is still the reason Bartow Rescue &amp; Resources exists.
